March 21, 2009

We are in contact with Apple every morning via the Iridium sat phone and text messages. They send us their latest position, we plot it on Google maps. Then we pull up the latest weather forecast from Buoy Weather online, and forward the information onto Apple.

Apple sent notice that they are now able to receive but not transmit on their Single Sideband Radio (SSB). And should be able to start receiving weather reports via radio fax soon.

Relayed from Apple:

We recommend that everyone should undertake such a passage to appreciate the real value of all disposable commodities that we take so much for granted.

Relayed message via Iridium satellite phone:

Last night celebrated first thousand miles. Have been filming friendly dolphins (Apple is super excited!).  Strange still seeing birds out here.

Apple and her crew are doing well. Their SSB radio is down, so they have not been able to update their blog. This update is being provided by the crew of Limerick, currently located in La Paz. We have been in contact with Apple via our Iridium Sat phone. And have sent and received text messages which include their lat/long positions and weather updates. We will also attempt to update the Google map soon.

Cheers
